An item won't go on the order, and the screen says its price isn't set¶
What you're seeing¶
You try to add something to a takeaway, delivery or online order, and it will not go on. The screen tells you a price is not set for it.
Why it happens¶
The item has no price for that particular way of selling. An item carries four separate prices — one base price, and one each for takeaway, delivery and online. A price of zero is not treated as "same as the base price"; it is treated as "not for sale this way", and the item is kept off the order rather than being sold at nothing.
So an item can be perfectly fine on a table order and refuse to go on a takeaway one. Check the saved price for the order type you are taking — that is the field the message is about.
What to do now¶
The price has to be filled in before the item can be sold that way. Do not put the order through as a different type of sale to get past it — that would record the sale as something it was not.
Getting past it now, with a customer waiting. A manager can set the price and carry on. A cashier needs a manager's approval to do it in the moment. A captain cannot set prices and should ask a manager.
Making it stay fixed is a separate job, done afterwards on the item itself — see below.
The lasting fix¶
Put a real price on the item, so the next person does not hit the same wall:
- Open Manage ▸ Menu Catalog and open the item — see Change a price.
- Fill in the price for the way you actually sell it. If you sell it for takeaway and delivery, both need a number.
- Save.
Preventing it¶
When you add a new item, price every way you intend to sell it, not just the base price. An item created with only a base price will stop the first person who tries to sell it another way. See Add a menu item.
