Takings are showing on the wrong day

What you're seeing

Last night's late service appears under today's date, or this morning's figures include something you are sure was sold yesterday.

The usual cause, if you close after midnight

Sales are recorded against the calendar date. A dish sold at 12:30am is recorded on the new date, even though it belongs to the evening that started the night before. One evening's trade therefore appears across two dates.

The screen offers a business-day cut-over setting, and it is not applied yet — setting it will not change which date a sale lands on. Until it is, this is expected behaviour rather than a misconfiguration.

What to check

  1. The time the sale actually happened. If it was after midnight, it is on the following date, and that is the current behaviour rather than an error.
  2. Which date the day close covered. The Day Close screen names the date it signs off, and that is what the figures are recorded against. See Close the day.
  3. The date range you are reading. Two reports disagreeing is usually two ranges disagreeing.

What will not fix it

Setting the business-day cut-over will not move the trade. It does not change which date a sale is recorded on, so the figures will not shift and you will have changed a setting to no effect. See Outlet settings.

If a late-closing venue's figures genuinely need to follow the evening rather than the clock, that is worth raising rather than working around.
