Period Close¶

Period Close locks the books for a date range, so nothing further can be posted into it.

It is not the same as closing a day¶

The screen states this outright: locking here does not sign any business day. Day Close is operational — a manager signing off one outlet's trading day. Period Close is accounting — an accountant locking a range of dates against further posting.

They are different actions, run by different people, for different reasons. Neither does the other's job.

Every day in the period has to be closed first¶

A period cannot lock while any business date inside it is missing its Day Close. The screen shows those dates as a missing-day gate, and every one has to be resolved before the lock is available.

Period Close never creates a Day Close itself. Where a day is missing, the option is to raise it with Operations — that sends an alert asking someone to close that day. It does not close it for you.

That is deliberate: the accountant does not get to sign off a manager's trading day.

The close steps¶

Beyond the missing-day gate there is a short list of steps to complete. Until they are done and the gate is clear, the lock action says so rather than simply refusing.

Locking is meant to be hard to undo¶

Once locked, reopening is a formal reopen. The screen states its conditions: an administrator and an accountant together, with a reason recorded.

The screen does not spell out how the two of them give that approval — whether it is entered once or twice, in what order, or from whose sign-in. Find out how your restaurant does it before you need it, rather than during a close.

A formal reopen reopens nothing operational. It unlocks the books; it does not reopen a signed business day, which cannot be reopened at all.

What to check before locking¶

Every business date in the range has a Day Close. Anything in the missing-day gate is a blocker.
The statements for the period look right — see Statements. Once locked, correcting them is a formal process rather than an edit.
