The floor¶
The floor is your tables, as they stand right now. It is the screen a captain works from for most of a shift.
What a table's state tells you¶
Free — no active table order is recorded against it. Selecting it starts one.
Running — there is an open order on that table. Selecting it takes you to the order so you can add to it.
To bill — the order has been billed and is waiting to be paid. The floor counts these separately from running tables, so a cashier can see what is queued for payment.
The counts at the top tell you how many tables are in each state, so you can see the shape of the room without reading every table.
Not every order sits on a table¶
The floor also covers sales that never had a table:
- Counter — someone ordering at the till.
- Takeaway and delivery — food leaving the building.
They behave like table orders in most respects, but they are priced differently: an item's takeaway, delivery and online prices are separate fields from its base price. See Menu items.
Things to know¶
"Free" describes the record, not the room. If someone sat down and no order was started, the table still reads as free. The floor shows what has been recorded.
A table is not finished with until its bill is settled. Tables still occupied are one of the day-close checks, so anything left on the floor at the end of service surfaces there. See Close the day.
