A recipe says what a dish is made of: which stock items, and how much of each.

What a recipe gives you

Costing. Once KJB knows a dosa uses so much batter and so much oil, it can tell you what the dosa costs to make — which, set against what you sell it for, is the margin on that dish.

A written answer to "what goes in this?" that does not live in one person's head.

Versions, and why they exist

A recipe is not edited in place and forgotten. Changes are made as a new version, and a version is activated to become the one in use.

That matters because costs move. Last month's recipe at last month's prices explains last month's margin; overwriting it would erase the explanation. Versioning keeps the history that makes a cost change readable.

A draft can be discarded without affecting what is active, so working something out costs nothing.

What recipes do not do here

A recipe does not reduce your stock when a dish is sold. Depletion at the point of billing is a separate capability, and it is not what this screen does. Recipes here are for knowing what a dish is made of and what it costs.
