Reconciliation¶
Checking what the bank says happened against what your books say happened.
Why it exists¶
Your books record what you believe took place. Your bank records what actually moved. Reconciliation lays the two side by side so the differences can be explained — a payment that never cleared, a charge nobody recorded, a deposit that landed a day later than expected.
How it works¶
Import a bank statement. Nothing can be reconciled until the bank's version is in; the empty state says exactly that.
Match lines. Each statement line is paired with the posting it corresponds to. An auto-match does the obvious pairings.
Unmatch if one is wrong. A match can be undone, and you are asked to confirm before it is.
The leftovers are the point. Lines that will not match are where the discrepancies live, and working through them is the actual job — matching is how you clear the noise so the leftovers are visible.
Things to know¶
Reconciling is not correcting. Matching a line records that you have accounted for it. Where the difference turns out to be a genuine error, fixing it is a posting, not a match.
If the screen says it is not turned on for you¶
