Insights

Insights answers four questions about how the business is doing, over a period you choose.

The question What it shows you
How are my sales trending? net sales by day
How is my menu performing? top items by revenue, and menu engineering
How healthy is my stock? stock value by category, purchases by category
Where am I losing revenue? revenue leakage by type

Every figure belongs to a period

The period is a control at the top — today, the last seven days, the last thirty. Change it and every number changes, because you have asked a different question. Before comparing two readings, or quoting one, check they cover the same span.

Reading the four questions

Sales trending is a shape, not a total. What matters is the direction and the days that break it — a Tuesday that looks like a Saturday is worth understanding.

Menu performance ranks what actually earns. The item you are proudest of and the item that pays for the kitchen are often not the same one.

Stock health shows value sitting on shelves and what you have been buying. Money in stock is money not in the bank; a category growing while its sales are not is worth a look.

Revenue leakage groups the ways money does not arrive — discounts, complimentary items, wastage, cancellations. This is the most useful of the four and the least comfortable, because it is the number most restaurants never see broken down.

Empty periods say so

Each panel names what is absent — no billed sales in this period yet, no purchases recorded in this period yet. That tells you nothing matched the period you selected; whether that is right is your judgement.

Insights is not the accounts

These are trend reads, not statements. For figures that have to be right to the rupee — what you owe, what you earned, what the tax was — go to Books. Insights is for noticing; Books is for proving.
